Masterton is in the south part of Dunfermline, which is the ancient capital of Scotland. Dunfermline is steeped in history with many historic visitor attractions – Dunfermline Abbey and Palace, Abbot House, St Margaret’s Shrine and Cave, Andrew Carnegie’s Birthplace, Carnegie Hall, Pittencrieff Park (The Glen) to name but a few. It was also a very prosperous town, with extensive linen and silk mills which brought such large orders from America that an American Consul was established – one of the few outwith a capital city.
The area around Masterton HalI is also very important historically and many of the surrounding street names reflect the historic connections.
